Are you FAIR?

You’re probably asking yourself what is FAIR? FAIR stands for Fair, Accurate, Inclusive, Respectful. FAIR is an education law passed in only California, but hopefully it will pass in other states as well. It is a law that that requires schools to integrate factual information about social movements, current events and history of people of color, people with disabilities and people into existing social studies lessons. It also prevents schools from adopting instructional materials that discriminate. The law does a number of things; it teaches the students about the social science instruction to include a study of the role and contributions of lesbians, gay, bisexual and transgender, ethnic racial minority groups and people with disabilities. Massachusetts is one of the few states that for gay marriage. It is legal for homosexuals to be legally married, and Massachusetts has a huge history with other cultures. I think it would benefit children if they started learning about it from they are younger, to prevent bullying, stereotyping, and other things. I really believe that the use of slang words like “F*****” or“R****” will be greatly reduced.

Children will learn:

How different culture helped in with the development of Massachusetts

How homosexuals were treated before and now

How people with disabilities were treated then and now
